DON " BIG DADDY" GARLITS

Born January 14, 1932, Tampa, Florida, he is considered the father of drag racing. A pioneer, he became the first drag racer to officially surpass 200 miles per hour; he has broken a number of other speed records, being the first to officially surpass 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, 260 and 270 miles per hour. Wynn's was the first company to sponsor Garlits, a relationship that dates back to 1960, when the first Wynn's decal appeared on his Swamp Rat III. Garlits was the first driver to win three National Hot Rod Association national titles and three world championships. In 1997, he was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
